There used to be 3 TV channels in America, and you could be sure that 20-30% of the country would catch the show on at 8pm on one of them. It's happening with all of entertainment. People are gonna read their own stuff, and there isn't going to be one big book everyone will read. These things mean people have so many more options today than ever before. The internet has made it easier for indie authors to exist, and for people with niche interests to find each other.
